This is one disturbing story. L.J. Scar has written a book that hooked me quickly and kept me turning pages in the hope that her main character would get free of her cruel, yet sanctimonious grandfather.

With a tinge of the paranormal this story centers on Jezebel (Jez) Godfrey, whose parents ill-fated love and horrid deaths leave too many questions unanswered, and disturbingly so. Jez hunts the ghosts of her origins, figuratively and literally, while enduring the sadistic whims of her grandfather, Pastor Jeb Godfrey. Within a home-life fraught with peril, and a high school existence where she’s ridiculed by her peers, Jez Godfrey keeps her abuse a secret and pursues the controversies of her parents’ lives, deaths and their love.

Falling in love was definitely not part of her plan, but it happens. I won’t issue any spoilers, but I will say I was shocked by the ending. As I said, this is a disturbing story. If you’re interested in reading a book that is by no means a typical love story, then this will fill the bill. It’s well-written and nowhere near what you might expect.
